Each January for the last two years, Kevin has taught a class at Maryville College to help students learn about financial planning. The class lasts three hours each day for three weeks and covers a variety of topics including budgeting, investing, taxes, insurance, and estate planning. WATE News heard of Kevin’s endeavors and recently featured him on TV!

Kevin makes the following suggestions to all college students:

  • Try not to keep up with the Jones’s. In many instances, classmates’ parents pay for most expenses, and trying to keep up can be financially devastating.
  • Eating out too much is a “financial killer.”
  • Spend frugally, but allow for purchases that make you happy.
  • Budgets are boring, but technology can help. There are many of apps that can help your spending and manage your debt.

Talking to your own children about personal finance can be incredibly difficult. In many cases, it is much easier for someone else to talk to your children about finances. Kevin and our team are always willing to meet with you and your children, either in person or over the phone, to discuss any financial issues that your children may be having.
